On 12 October 2021, display boards were unveiled at the finish of the run telling the story of the INEOS 1:59 Challenge. There were many reasons for this, an important one being Kipchoge's run. The venue of the race, the Prater Hauptallee, was awarded the World Athletics Heritage Plaque on the initiative of the Vienna City Marathon. We are proud to have made an important contribution to this and want to carry on the spirit of Eliud Kipchoge's run. Vienna will forever be associated with the first marathon under two hours. The INEOS 1:59 Challenge inspired millions of people and continues to do so today. That is why we are celebrating this spirit for all running enthusiasts. The Vienna City Marathon, as local organiser, together with an international team of experts, has implemented this race, the INEOS 1:59 Challenge. On 12 October 2019, Eliud Kipchoge ran into the history books and our hearts with the world's first marathon under two hours.
